Trinidad to Santa Clara
April 3rd, 2008
Today, Rick, Jan, Andrew and Stefan rode up the steepest road in Cuba to meet us at this lookout.
Rick didn't look any worse for wear after the ride.
It was a tad windy up the top, but the view was good.
The group at the top. Back row: Rob, Trish, Alan, Judith, Alan, Andrew, Marlene, Lynsey, Rick, Geoff, Hillary, Kate.
Front: Me, Stefan, Jan and Dilys
Once at the top, we admired the view...
...and then there was only one way to go, so we hopped on our bikes for a great down!
At the bottom of the hill we stopped in for another coffee with a local.
Problem was that half of us went to the wrong farm, but we were welcomed all the same! Freshly roasted and brewed coffee, and fresh pineapple was quickly arranged for these foreigners that turned up unannounced....
Their clothesline caught my fancy. You'd have to be careful hanging up the clothes!
And out of nowhere, that blue sky and sunshine turned into a major downpour, so we sat and waited it out.
After the rain, we hopped on our bikes again, and headed a bit further down the road to have lunch. The pig was cooked for us by the people that we were supposed to have coffee with.
The end of the days ride was at Manicaragua, where I spent my (well Raul's!) only moneda nacional buying an iceblock.
