Havana
March 23rd, 2008
Havana is a large city with approximately 2.4 million people living in it. We obviously didn't see a lot of it, but the overriding impression was of neglect - with buildings crumbling everywhere.
We arrived the day before the tour was to start, and had a wander along the Malecon towards El Morro.
We then headed back a street and had a look around.
It is rather odd walking along the streets as you are almost inside people's places. You walk past windows and open doors, and you can't help but look inside. While the outsides of the buildings were falling apart, inside they were well kept (no, no photos - I felt voyeuristic enough just peeking).
Of course, not everywhere in the city is crumbling.
